After exhibitions in England William Anthony Cakebread, (nom de plume "Van Ess") put together

his first New Zealand exhibitions, dedicating his first exhibition to the late Claude Monet.

"Van Ess" has taken some of Monet's works and added his own personal touch of colour and technique. The methods of other impressionists, notably Pissaro

and Van Gogh were also shown, along with some local scenes.
